Turmeric Oil

Turmeric, like ginger, offers many benefits. Some are more substantiated than others. I will speak from personal experience because I use turmeric oil a lot.

First off, for myself, it definitely helps with my chronic elbow pain. I played a lot of baseball in my middle school and high school years, and then stickball fast pitch in Brooklyn, and it took its toll on my left elbow. Starting about two years ago, I finally caved and tried massaging 5 drops of turmeric oil diluted in 1 ounce of grapeseed or fractionated coconut oil into the area, and it made a huge difference. Living in Florida, the humidity made it even worse. So, no more Aleve once or even twice a day. I use turmeric much less than I used to because it really either helped it heal or reduced the inflammation. So, it’s a great product for pain relief through its anti-inflammatory properties.

For skincare, again, only use high-quality turmeric oil and dilute it heavily—5 drops to 1 ounce of carrier oil. It has the capacity to kill bacteria that causes acne and may also have a positive effect on fine lines.

In closing, regarding any therapeutic intentions with essential oils, even those of the highest quality, it’s very important to remember that everyone has a different physiological makeup. Meaning, what works for me may not work for the next person.

My fiancée is literally the biggest proponent on the planet of lavender oil. It helps her sleep, and she bathes with it once, sometimes twice, a week. For me, not only is it of no help, but it also happens to be an aroma I genuinely don’t like. So whatever benefit she gets from it—and I see it daily, she genuinely benefits from it—I personally get no benefit from it.

So, with that, do your due diligence and always try just a little at first. I’ve found that essential oils are not an acquired taste. The ones I like, and the two I genuinely love, I loved immediately, and that has never changed.
